DATE OF USE (21 March 1843) of the LONDON No 1 in MC. A very
fine 1d plate 24 RD (just in SE) cancelled superb upright strike of
the London No 1 in cross, TWO DAYS EARLIER than date of entry in the
proof book (See Rockoff & Jackson : Encyclopaedia of the
Maltese Cross). A Mulready is known used on the same date.

Probably one of the
finest looking examples of the rare WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE maltese
cross in existence. A 4 margin example from plate 18 lettered RC and
showing fine basal shift, cancelled upright and almost full strike
of this spectacular cross. However on close inspection it appears to
be thinned and paper stuck on the reverse to disguise this fact.
Looks perfect to the naked eye - I thought it was when I bought it
